Announcing Dasera’s Sequoia 3.0 Release

We’ve been hard at work, listening to feedback from our customers and executing against our product roadmap, and we’re excited to announce our new Sequoia 3.0 release.

Why Sequoia?

We’re calling this release Sequoia for 2 reasons.

First, because Sequoia National Park features the world’s largest trees, it’s been nicknamed “The Land of Giants.” We’ve been aggressively expanding our Engineering and Product teams, and as a result, we’ve added a ton of functionality to the release. In so many words, it’s a giant unto itself.

In addition, Sequoia National Park isn’t just one big tree -- it’s an entire forest of big trees. This new release helps our customers see the “full forest” of all their cloud data stores -- not just the bark of one cloud data store.

What’s in it for You

In today’s cloud-first environments, new data stores can be created with a few mouse clicks. New data stores are created so frequently that it’s tough for Security and Compliance teams to keep up.  Our Sequoia release adds to our unified platform approach and helps to automatically answer these questions:

  • What are all the data stores in my cloud environment?
  • Are any of the data stores misconfigured?
  • What data has been loaded into these data stores?
  • What sensitive data has been loaded into these data stores?
  • Does the mere presence of some types of sensitive data in these data stores violate established policy?
  • Who has access to this sensitive data -- and should they have access?
  • Among those with access, is data being misused?

Sequoia 3.0 Highlights

Discover Invisible Cloud Data Stores

In cloud environments, new data stores can be created on a moment’s notice. New data stores represent additional surface area that needs to be protected. But new data stores are being added faster than Security or Compliance can review them. You can’t protect what you can’t see. If you aren’t aware of new data stores, there may be a host of security and data compliance issues you’re not aware of as well.

Let Dasera Auto-Discover your active and inactive data stores in your multi-cloud environments

Avoid Breaches due to Misconfigurations

Misconfiguration remains the #1 Cause of Data Breaches in the Cloud. Because cloud misconfiguration exploits can be difficult to detect using traditional security solutions, the vast majority of IT professionals fear that their organization has already suffered a major cloud breach that they have yet to discover. Common data store misconfigurations can include:

  • Storing unencrypted data at rest
  • Leaving the data store publicly accessible
  • Not having back-ups scheduled as per best practices

Let Dasera automatically detect and remediate misconfigurations. Get better visibility into your cloud data store configuration and timely notifications of dangerous changes using our No-code policy and alert framework

Detect Over-Privileged Data Stores and Excessive Privileged Users

Insiders gone rogue or user errors comprise the most common privileged threat vectors. Many times an employee has access rights to various deep-lying parts of the business often due to employees being with the organization for a long period of time and changing roles as they go along and access never being revoked. The risks of allowing such access to certain systems can range from the employee destroying data that they should not have access to through to the entire corporate environment becoming compromised.

Let Dasera discover which users and roles have access to each data store, highlight excessive privileged users and over-privileged data stores based on when and how the users are using their assigned privileges and data store sensitivity.

Get Alerted When New Sensitive Fields Are Discovered or Existing Fields are Modified

In order to protect your data effectively, you need to know exactly what sensitive information you have and if that data is modified, its classification could be updated. However, controls should be in place to prevent users from falsifying the data classification level. Only authorized users should be able to impact the data classification.

Let Dasera monitor when a new sensitive field is added to an existing data store or when specific data sets have been modified with INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE SQL statements.
